HROMADSKY DIM
COMMUNITY BUILDING
Novoaleksandrovka,
Dnipropetrovsk region, Ukraine
The problems of small towns and villages in Ukraine include a low level of social and entrepreneurial activity, a lack of places for children and family recreation, and weak communication between the residents with the government.
"HROMADSKY DIM” is a project of a community building, a center for communication, leisure and involvement in social and business activities for the villagers, a platform for family and collective events, and a gathering point in case of important events and crisis situations.
The purpose of the project is to involve the village residents in "clubs", hold education-related events (seminars, lectures, interactive education), adaptation and socialization of vulnerable people, support for the disabled, and development of social and entrepreneurial activity.
The design of the community building was requested by the Dnipropetrovs'k Regional Administration, whose goal was to create a place for community events and meetings of citizens, meetings with government officials, opinion leaders and various speakers.

The community building consists of four basic zones: a central zone, a business and service zone, a family recreation and activity zone, and an outdoor space.
The central zone is an information and communication space and includes a hall for events, conferences and movie screenings, which is used as a place for socializing and communication in the free time after events. The central area also includes a library, coworking space and an Internet cafe.
The business and service zone includes office premises, retail space, and a consumer services zone. A relevant problem for small towns and villages is the lack of guest accommodation, so the community building project includes a mini-hotel with 8 rooms, which is located on the second floor of the building.
The family recreation and activity zone includes a family cafe, a museum with a shop, a children's play area, classrooms, music and dance classes, a resource room, art and handmade studios, fitness and workouts, and a gym for people with disabilities.
In designing the community building, our team aimed to turn people's stay into a pleasant leisure time, so the areas of the two-story building are connected by wide galleries with "pockets" of recreation and open common activities.
