SETTLEMENT ARCHITECTURE
AND URBAN PLANNING

Baghdad, Iraq

Project of a settlement in Baghdad, Iraq for 16 houses with car-free territory inside. The development is as dense as possible, which is typical for Iraq.

Vehicular access to each house is provided. Automobile traffic occurs around the site of the village, without crossing the pedestrian zone. Cars drive into private parking lots on the outside of the plot.

All houses have their own plots. The plots are of two types:
10 plots of 300 m2 and 6 plots with swimming pool of 440 m2.

We have developed two types of house layouts. For Muslims, taking into account religious traditions and peculiarities, as well as a more free option of layout.

The territory inside the plot is completely pedestrianized. The houses are strung on a central alley with an artificial pond, which runs through the entire plot. This is a place for walking and recreation. Sports and children's playgrounds adjoin the alley.

The houses look modern but with references to traditional local architecture. The cladding is made of local natural stone. The sun protection is an arabesque pattern.
